Journey Well, LLC

LGBTQ+

Sexuality and gender identity are sometimes difficult concepts to wrestle with.  Teenagers and young adults are exploring their sexuality and gender identity at younger and younger ages, and are faced with discrimination and misunderstandings that can affect their mental health and overall sense of well-being.  Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals, and others with concerns or questions regarding their identity, may not know where to go or who to talk to. In some cases, speaking to a counselor who specializes in gender and sexuality concerns can be useful, not only for the person who is engaging in self-discovery, but for family, friends, and partners of those individuals.
Red rose and buds
According to the Human Rights Campaign, over 50% of transgender boys, 29.9% of transgender girls and 41.8% of nonbinary youth have attempted suicide.  The Trevor Project lists the suicide attempt rate for LGB youth as nearly five times that of their non-LGB peers.  In addition, LGBTQ+ citizens are targeted for hate crimes at a significantly higher rate than almost any other minority group in the United States.  These shocking statistics show us that mental health interventions for the LGBTQ+ community are a vital part of making and keeping our communities safe and welcoming, and keeping our LGBTQ+ friends, family, and neighbors healthy.

In line with the Journey Well, LLC commitment to compassion, respect, and equality, Erin Fallath provides services specialized for LGBTQ+ clients and their families. They have relied on firsthand experience as a member the LGBTQ+ community in the greater Cincinnati area, as well as knowledge obtained through Safe Zone and multicultural awareness trainings. Erin recognizes that the challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals are frequently unique to this population, and they target their approaches according to each individual’s experiences. They use a person-centered and client-directed approach so that their clients feel comfortable expressing themselves however they see fit, and exploring the parts of themselves they aren’t sure of yet. Erin will help you explore how your experiences with yourself and others around you may have shaped your mental health, and work with you on the goals you set for yourself. They will also use Cognitive-Behavioral and Motivational Interviewing interventions to assist in building self-esteem and developing and maintaining a positive self-image.

Whether you know how you identify, have questions about your own sexuality or gender, or simply want resources to support someone in the LGBTQ+ community, the Journey Well, LLC team is here to support and affirm you.  You are valid, and worthy of respect and dignity, no matter how you identify.

Family and friends of LGBTQ+ individuals can find further support through PFLAG Cincinnati. LGBTQ+ youth can also contact the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network of Cincinnati.  Other resources for LGBTQ+ individuals include Equality Cincinnati, the Cincinnati chapter of the Human Rights Campaign, and Cincinnati Pride.
